生態護坡,是綜合工程力學、土壤學、生態學和植物學等學科的基本知識對斜坡或邊坡進行支護,形成由植物或工程和植物組成的綜合護坡系統的護坡技術。開挖邊坡形成以后,通過種植植物,利用植物與巖、土體的相互作用(根系錨固作用)對邊坡表層進行防護、加固,使之既能滿足對邊坡表層穩定的要求,又能恢復被破壞的自然生態環境的護坡方式,是一種有效的護坡、固坡手段。
